The Cefar IFC is a small portable 2 Channel Interference Stimulator with 6 pre-set programs. It offers both quadripolar and premodulated interference stimulation. The programming function and manual amplitude adjustment make it easy to customize treatments. The IFC also lets you monitor treatment.

Developed by Cefar Medical with 30 years professional first hand experience and know how.

Designed for physiotherapists and Rehab Clinics to confidently equip patients with quality interference treatment at home.

What is Interference?
The basic idea of interference is that you use two different mid-frequency alternating currents (1,001-10,000 Hz) in the treatment area. Where the two mid-frequency currents meet, a current is created that has a lower frequency (1-1,000 Hz) or beats per second (bps). The advantage of mid-frequency currents is that they pass through the tissue more easily and deeply than low-frequency current, which gives somato-sensory and motor nerve stimulation.

By blocking pain impulses (Gate Control) and releasing endorphins, interference currents ease both acute and long-term pain conditions. Interference can also be used to generate muscle contractions, which can be used for training the perineal muscles and reducing edemas.

Interference can be applied to the tissue in two ways - quadripolar and bipolar.

Quadripolar application (programs 1-3) requires 4 electrodes placed so that the current meets in the treatment area. Where the current meets, a current field is created in a four leaf clover shape (illustration 1). The frequency in the treatment field can be constant or modulated. The aim of modulation is to avoid nerve adaptation and to enhance comfort for the user. Adding a vector scan to the quadripolar method (which the IFC does) creates a larger treatment area, since the interference current is not constant but scans, or rotates, over a larger area (40% scan = 45 degrees rotation (illustration 2)).

1.  Quadripolar Application
2.  Quadripolar Application with Vector Scan

Bipolar application, commonly called premodulated (Programs 4-6) uses only 2 electrodes. The current is not modulated in the tissue, but in the stimulator, so it is already modulated when it reaches the electrodes. The treatment field should be between the 2 electrodes.

Preset Programs - Interferential or Premodulated Stimulation:
The Cefar IFC is a 2-Channel interference stimulator with 6 preset programs and 1 open for programming. P1-3 are interference stimulation (80-150 Hz) with simultaneous channels. By using quadripolar application, interference is ideal for relieving pain over large areas of the body. P4-6 are premodulated interference stimulation with separate channels, which is better for smaller areas or for treating two different areas at the same time.

Vector Scan:
Adding a vestor scan to the quadripolar method creates a larger treatment area, since the interference current is not constant but scans, or rotates over a larger area.

Modulated or Constant Frequency:
In the preset programs the frequency is modulated to avoid nerve adaptation and to enhance comfort for the user. Constant frequency is optional and can be used in P7.

Programmable:
One of the programs (P7) is open for the Care Giver's own settings. It is easy to program in the custom parameters for each individual patient.

Individual Amplitude Setting:
Even if interference programs (P1-3) are used it is possible to adjust amplitude, one channel at a time, during stimulation by pressing the P button.

Timer:
Preset treatment time is 20 minutes. P7 can be individually set to up to 60 minutes.

Keypad Lock:
The Cefar IFC has a keypad lock that prevents unintentional changes in amplitude. The keypad lock is activated 20 seconds after the amplitude is set.

Pause:
The Care Giver can pauyse the stimulation by reducing the amplitude to 0. When the amplitude is increased again, the program picks up where it left off.
Note: If the stimulator is paused for more than 5 minutes, it switches off automatically to spare the batteries.

Compliance:
The Cefar IFC makes  monitoring easy, since the stimulator keeps track of treatment time and how many treatments have been carried out.

Code Lock:
The Cefar IFC lets the Care Giver lock in the patient's settings to ensure that the right stimulation program is used at home.

Batteries or Mains:
The Cefar IC runs on 1.5V AA batteries, rechargeable or non-rechargeable. A battery indicator on the stimulator's display is lit when it is time to change/charge the batteries. The IFC can also run directly from a wall outlet using the adapter that comes with the stimulator.

Battery Indicator:
A battery indicator on the display of the stimulator lights up when it is almost time to change/charge the batteries.

Cefar Warranty:   2 years.
